I guess that if everything is fine with your lashes, you do not think about them much. You do not think that you should take care of them, you do not consider them to be really important. Probably, you just know that eyelashes are somehow connected to fashion because an expressive look and beautiful lashes always look stylish.

However, I should tell that lashes have always played an important role for humans and not only for us, in fact. Let me share several facts about eyelashes to prove that I’m right.

Historical facts about eyelashes

Women in all ancient civilizations used to take their look and lashes very seriously, and it’s a well-known fact about eyelashes. They used different tricks to make eyes look more expressive and lashes longer. Ancient Rome – women used the mix of crashed lead and water. Ancient Greece and Egypt – women burned special sticks and strewed their lashes with coal received. East – women used antimony.

On the other hand, there is another interesting historical fact about eyelashes. Do not know the reasons, but Egyptian priests used to remove all hair on their bodies including lashes and eyebrows.

Animal facts about eyelashes

Camels have a threefold eyelid and two layers of lashes that protect an eye from dust and sand. The great majority of cats do not have eyelashes. Lashes of ostriches are used for making paintbrushes.

Well, you can find hundreds of catchy facts about eyelashes like an embryo’s lashes develop somewhere between 7th-8th week. Or, that the total length of lashes that fall out during human life is more than 30 meters.

False eyelashes have been applied since the beginning of the 20th century. Hollywood film stars were the first to apply false eyelashes – with long and bushy eyelashes they had majestic look which helped them stand out in the crowd. By tradition, a film star should have had magnificent look, but as not everyone could brag about good eyelashes, applying false ones helped them out significantly.

Japanese strived to make false eyelashes as similar to natural eyelashes as possible. They tailored false eyelashes that duplicated the real ones. First, false eyelashes were put together in bunches and were glued to eyelid.

Then, a revolutionary event took place in false eyelashes history – in 2006 Japan has introduced lash-by-lash technique! That was a great finding in false eyelashes history, as each false lash was attached to each natural lash which looked at most naturally. The fringe was replaced by a material that looked like sable and mink’s fur. Functions of Human Eyelashes

The most obvious function of human eyelashes is a protective one. Eyelashes protect the eyes from particles, foreign objects, sunlight and perspiration.
One more function of human eyelashes is that they serve as sensitive receivers from impulses in the world around. These impulses contribute to general sensitivity of the eye.
Another function of human eyelashes is to inform us about current changes in our body. The absence of eyelashes signals about some illness up to neurotic behavior (it can be diagnosed when a person unconsciously plucks the eyelashes out).
